A last-minute holiday nibble that looks festive with almost no effort.

Quick info

  • Servings: 12 pieces
  • Prep: 15 minutes
  • Cooking:
  • Tools: sharp knife, cutting board, small bowl
  • Heads-up: the cheese shouldn’t be too cold, or it’ll crack when you cut it

Ingredients

  • 1 wheel of brie or camembert
  • 20g (0.7 oz) coarsely chopped nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts or almonds)
  • 1–2 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional, just to help the nuts stick)
  • 12 salted sticks or mini pretzels
  • fresh rosemary to taste (for decoration)

Method

  1. Take the whole wheel of brie or camembert and cut it vertically down the middle, so you get 2 half-wheels.

  2. From each half, cut 3 wedges.

  3. Slice each wedge into two thinner pieces, going through the thickness. You’ll end up with 12 thin, even triangles.

  4. (Optional) Lightly brush the surface of the triangles with honey or maple syrup.

  5. Press the triangles into the chopped nuts, just enough to make them stick.

  6. Stick a salted stick at the base of each triangle — that’s the trunk.

Arrange the little trees on a plate and finish with rosemary needles. Serve at room temperature.
